We received the Makita XDT14 impact driver for review awhile back. It was a great fit because we already regularly use their impacts. We have always had good experiences with them.
Here at Thetoolpig.com we have been using Makita impact drivers longer than any other brand by a wide margin. We still use them more than any other brand. We started using them back in the 90’s in 12v versions and went up from there. I still remember the bewildered looks from other carpenters and tradesmen when I would pull one out. Then the questions would start, “What are you going to do with that? Why is it so small? Or why do you need it? Then why is it so noisy?”
I would usually answer only one question with, “Oh it’s my impact driver.” Then I would find the biggest screw in my tool bags and hand it to the person and say, “Drive this screw and tell me what you think.” The look on every single persons face was gold to me! I would grin from ear to ear every time because I knew I had just made another convert.
The biggest surprise for most of them was the fact that they were able to drive screws with much less effort. They couldn’t help but be impressed by the way it would drive screws without stripping like with their cordless drills. They also loved how small they were compared to their cordless drills.
If you haven’t used an impact driver it is time to make the plunge.
Makita continues to be a leader in impact drivers. Today they are more capable and efficient than ever before. Makita has led the charge to smaller and more comfortable impact drivers. 5 years ago they launched the worlds smallest 18v impact driver in Japan. It was the TD148. It was not only smaller than anything else including12v tools, it was also the fastest driver on the planet. We had so much fun making tool fight videos showing it beating other impacts from every company.
We really feel that the little green impact nicknamed “baby hulk” helped put us on the map in the tool review world and helped put a lot of eyes on our work. The XDT 14 is very similar. It is Tiny and Powerful. It can also win those tool fights because it is so fast. The Makita XDT14 gets more done with less effort than many other drivers.
Of course tool fights don’t really prove anything. They can’t really show how a tool will affect your work. Driving a screw in 3.7 seconds vs 4 seconds wont really change your work day much.
STANDOUT TOOL
How a tool feels after using it all day is much more important. Is it comfortable in your hands all day long? If so you will not even think about the tool. You will be able to focus more on your work. How is the trigger control? Is it smooth and linear? If so you will have much better control of your fastening. If it is rough or poorly programmed you will have more trouble feathering your fasteners in perfectly. You may strip screw heads more or overdrive them causing damage to your work. The XDT 14 is really good with all of these points.
While some manufacturers are focused on providing the biggest torque numbers or apps to use with your smart phone, Makita has been focused on making your workday better. They have reduced vibration and produce significantly less noise than some competing brands. The time spent engineering and testing really pays off when you are driving screws all day. This crazy world delivers enough stress without adding to it with our tool choices. The Makita XDT 14 has easily driven every sort of fastener on our jobs.
Light but not a lightweight
The smaller size has so many advantages. You are lifting less weight every time you pick it up. This is especially advantageous when working overhead. These smaller impacts now fit in much smaller spaces. Even with longer bits you still have an advantage of where they will fit. This Makita XDT14 will fit in spots smaller than some right angle drills. I really notice this when working between joists and inside cabinets. These impacts simply fit where other tools will not.
FEATURES
The XDT14 is not the top of the line impact driver from Makita. It does share many features with the XDT16. There is a switch on the base of the tool to allow you to turn the led on and off as well as toggle between the different speeds. I have to admit, I am impatient. I usually use impact drivers on the top speed and feather the trigger with my finger. The speed modes really do help for smaller fasteners. They are sometimes easy to strip out on cabinet hardware or similar items. The slower speed modes help us to avoid damaging our work.
The assist mode is pretty useful as well It is so easy to over drive screws on sheet metal and other building products. You want to get to the point where the screw is holding both pieces together but not spinning freely. Assist mode gives full power until the impact mechanism kicks in. At that point it will automatically reduce the motor speed to allow you to continue driving the screw home without over driving and stripping. These modes are not for everyone but it’s nice to have them available. Each person has to decide if these types of modes are useful or not. For a seasoned worker they may be less desirable. For an apprentice or new person on the job they may help increase quality and productivity.
Although it looks much like the XDT13 there is a huge difference in performance. The specs on paper look similar but the XDT 14 is much faster and is worth the premium in price. It is also smaller and fits in tighter spots. We compare it with the XDT13, XDT16 and a competing 36v model from MetaboHPT here.
What’s in the Box?
This particular kit includes the fast charger and 2 5.0 batteries. There is also an ambidextrous belt hook. It is enough to keep you sending screws home all day long. The charger will easily keep up with the driver for just about any application. It also includes a nice kit box. The lid has generous bit storage. There is space for quite a few different sized bits. The second lid secures with a reassuring snap. I prefer boxes over bags. I do wish all companies packaged their tools in interlocking boxes in North America like they do in Europe. For me, I would be willing to pay a little more for interlocking boxes along with the tool purchase.
Who needs it?
Who is this driver for? It is for absolutely any professional who needs to drill holes and drive fasteners efficiently. The higher quality, performance and price tag means that more in the trades will be using it. We require tools that hold up for the long run. Our income depends on it. We don’t need extra long warranties. We need performance for the long haul and Makita continues to deliver.
That’s not to say that discerning do it yourselfers wont buy it. They too will benefit from the refinement and features. That is something each person needs to weigh out when making tool purchase decisions.

I am one of the biggest M12 fans around.
I’ve picked up the makita hundreds of times @homedepot.
If I win, I may have to eat crow lol Paul.
Currently I have the router, x2 blower, x2 miter saw 10in,x2 chainsaw, x2 Tracksaw, black beauty (sub compact 6.5,regular 6.5, x2 brushed 7 1/4, and the metal saw.
I’m slowly getting there!
Definitely looking to start my power tool collection with a solid brand ! So I can stop borrowing my friend’s tools ! Lol!

This little impact will be perfect for installing some new railings I have to put up this summer!
@gsteele716
Always been a DeWALT guy but I’m underwhelmed with some of their power tools recently. Might be time to make the switch! ig: @coach__hart
Makita makes the best impacts. In fact, I consider it to be the gateway drug into jumping onto the Makita 18V platform. I was so impressed with my first impact which was the Dtd141, I now own 90% Makita cordless tools.
@makitacharles
I like every Makita product I have had the opportunity to use. I like the option to adjust the strength of the driver as well for working with more delicate tasks like cabinet doors on built-ins. Makita is atop the game. I would be curious to see the 12v power versus the 18v. IG Hageybabey
Had an old Makita impact driver that recently died. Been looking at the xdt 14 and it’s a must need.

I do commercial drywall and framing and have been using Makita products for a long time. What better way to keep the trend going by adding this baby to my arsenal of Makita tools.

I totally need this Makita XDT14 impact! I’m looking to start building a Makita 18v set of tools for home projects and this would be my first one! My buddy Andrew does carpentry as a hobby and he introduced me to Makita last year when I helped him make benches for his wedding in British Columbia!

What an incredible impact thanks as always for the honest review and opinion @toolpig my Instagram is @barefield1211
Im a Diesel Tech and have always liked makita. But got hand me down ridgid tools fom my dad so never purchased one for my self, but my rigid impact drivers are on the frits so im needing a new one but have a baby on the way so may be going back to air impact for smaller jobs, family always comes first!! Love what you do, keep it up. Ig- @daddiediesel
Wow that thing looks awesome. Just got all my milwaukee tools stolen so I was contemplating going to makita especially after all of the yard work tools you posted on Instagram. (Tool battle on that poor bunk bed)

I love my Makita sets. I use them from trim up to 12” grk s. Incredible power and grace on the small stuff. I like how complete your reviews are. Many reviews I read don’t answer enough of the questions. Could really use a new one after I knocked mine off a short ladder and broke the case. Funny thing though some electrical taped wrapped like a chin strap and it just keeps going.
IG @strikingtimber
Haven’t tried a Makita yet be a good time to start though
@saab84mw
Love this impact drill! Have absolutely flogged it and it keeps on producing!! It’s been dropped and still performs. Seriously can’t recommend it enough!! Haven’t used the other settings other than when decking and making sure I don’t over drive the screws. But I’ve had it drilling in tek screws through 10mm thick steel and it just powers through it.
IG- Elliot Broad
This looks like an awesome impact driver for my brother in law to make me a nice shoe rack.
IG: @ivettezserrano
I bought this impact as part of a kit over a year back. It is by far the best impact I have used to date. I’ve used ridgid, Milwaukee, and DeWalt. All of which are on my job sites with different owners. This one outperforms them all on 5 amp batteries. 10 decks, Lags and all screws installed with this impact. I used it yesterday on a neck. It’s smaller than the subcompact makita I also own in depth. It never quits. It doesn’t wear my wrist out. I love this tool and the hammer drill that came with it in the kit. I have 27 batteries and 6 saws . Track, mitre, rear handle, recip, all makita. I’m cordless on my job sites without ever wishing for or needing a cord. Great products. The x2 line is a game changer
Multiple settings on this impact are insane they really create a whole other tool. Leave it to makita to set the bar so high.
Ig: ulises269
When I picture a great tool Makita is always my first choice for someone who uses it very seldom and treasures his tools. They are always going to test the hands of time. They say tools back in the early days lasted forever. I’m not so sure about that anymore Brushless technology and the lithium batteries are so far exceeding anything the previous generations tool box has ever had.
started installing cabinets a couple months ago and have been using my buddy’s second hand De-Walt drills and they sound like there about to die lol always liked Makita hopefully I’ll put this drill to work!

Nice and quiet. Would certainly come in handy. @dana.kinnaird
While in the market of updating tools I’ve been leaning more and more towards Makita because of Toolpig’s reviews. AThis impact looks so smooth and looks like it can tackle the projects I do with no problems. I’ve been using Dewalt for so long that I have a hard time making the change over. So getting my hands on one would help tremendously to help with my decision.

I have a ton of makita tools but I have never owned their impact drivers or drills .
I would love to try out this impact driver .
Personally I don’t use the different speed settings but after working with a new summer hire at work that didn’t know how to use an impact I see how it’d be super helpful.
@fit_ish_carpenter
I have been following your ig page for a few years now and I really enjoy and appreciate your posts. After working 10 years in residential carpentry & home improvements I started working in the events industry building sets and stages. The work is good but isn’t the same as building something in someone’s home that needs to be aesthetically pleasing, functional and last a lifetime. When you work for yourself, and usually alone, time is money and prep is everything. Your tools need to be effective so there is no wasted time or effort. Even though I work a lot in the production world now and I don’t really have to worry about every little part of every show, its embedded in me to be as productive as possible with everything I build. Your posts and reviews definitely help keep me up to date so I can be efficient and enjoy what I’m working on.
We use all Makita tools at work and the drivers and drills feel really good in the hand. Like you said, the different modes come in handy at times but usually I just keep it on high and adjust accordingly with the trigger. The self tapping mode definitely comes in handy in certain situations, like an awkward angle or a tight spot. In the job boxes at work there is a lot of those white and black makitas (which I can’t stand) but there’s a few XDT13s and they are ok. I’ve used the XDT16 and it feels amazing. After the seeing the XDT14 blow away the Triple hammer, I wanna get my hands on one! I bring my gen2 12v Milwaukee into work cause the crews are big and I don’t have to worry about getting stuck with a drill to drive screws all day when all the impacts are in use. My 12v is a powerhouse but they changed the handle a bit from the gen 1 to gen 2 and now it cramps my hand up. I was thinking of going back to the gen 1 cause it was so comfy. My other idea was grabbing a new Makita impact and just taking the gun with not batteries or charger so that my bag is at light as possible on the way into NYC every morning. The XDT14 sounds like the perfect solution!
Thanks for everything ToolPig!
Best,
Lucas

I could definitely use these for my business just bought a Makita 1 9/16 hammer drill sds chuck and I love it so I’m sure these are good as well.

First set I ever owned was Makita. Lasted forever but then made the switch to DeWalt for God knows what reason and it’s broken down alot quicker. Going to make the jump back to Makita this would be a great start. Article was awesome. Thorough and informative. Great job.
Cody -. @c_ droughy
I’ve always been a “closet” fan when it came to Makita impacts. A guy I used to work with had a Makita impact and I was always very impressed with it. I used it a few times and every time I was just blown away by it! I absolutely loved the feel of the grip. Much like you, I usually run the drill in the fastest mode, and feather the trigger to my needs. The precision was superb. When I first started out in the trades I always thought that Makita was at the bottom when it came to impacts, and I was sadly mistaken. Being a commercial electrician I’m constantly needing the power and sometimes I just need the precision. This seems to be the perfect fit after reading your review!

I’m on my third trigger on my m18 impact, starting to think about changing to makita since there wasn’t an m18 tracksaw introduced this week. Nice write up Paul.
@metalwoodandmore
Such an awesone impact. Compact and powerful. Had the subcompact 18V but would love to try this one as its body seems alot smaller in terms of the driver. Reason why i went with the gen 3 m18. But rrally miss my Makita and im sure this would be it for me. Might have to go check it out in stores soon enough
@sst_maintance
I am a carpenter. I would use this a lot because I am about to be starting as an apprentice. There are so many different things this could be used for. I would use it a lot on cabinet installations.

Might be time for myself to make the switch back to Makita! Currently own a screw gun and track saw from them and am growing quite fond of the platform!

Great write up. These smaller tools are great for those of us with shoulder problems.
IG: aggiefan33
I like the small features like the assist mode because that can be super advantageous even for a seasoned pro. Say you’re. Screwing self tappers through a fence board into a 1×2 steel runner while most of your fence boards look the same unfinished you will have some that are just softer than others and you could overdrive a screw very easily. I know cause I’ve done it Insta id: johnsonhyroad91
I have started to switch from Dewalt to Makita and never owned an impact tool. I would love to continue my growth of Makita tools and add my first ever impact to my set!

Thanks Paul. It’s because of you that I ended up choosing Makita as my cordless platform. I seen your review on the makita rear handle and it convinced me to switch platforms. This impact looks like a beast. From everything I’ve seen it looks like a must have. Great article and thank you for all of your reviews.

I have the xd16 based on toolpig advice. If I were to add another impact, which I expect to, I will add the xd14 as it comes highly
recommended and the 3.3 lbs makes all the difference on installs. @brooklynwelding
Love Makita tool I use there band saw daily I’m an electrician and would love to add an impact driver to my tool bag
Love the article! Im just getting started in the HVAC industry and would love to add this to my tool kit. Maybe replace my 20 year old Bosch drill I bought at a garagr sale haha
I need one of these to replace my brush motor 1/4 impact at work!
I already own a XDT14 and xdt13 as well as an older brushed model that I can’t remember the number on. I bought makita on a whim while in my electrical apprenticeship mostly because I wanted to try something other than dewalt or Milwaukee. I was so impressed by the combo I bought that I have continued to buy makita and I don’t think twice being that I am now heavily invested. Considered other brands only to find out that makita inspired or makes some of their tools. Truly the most innovative tools on the market in my opinion. My brother just stared his apprenticeship and strangely was drawn to makita as well, but being a greenhorn he doesn’t have a lot of cash to spend. If I won I would give this to him and get him started on power tools. Love the giveaways and instagram content always delivers. Been following since 2017.
First time trying to win something in one of your giveaways. I’ve been following you on Instagram for a while now and after ready your article you really do give amazing reviews and go into all aspect of the tools. I remodel houses I’m 21 and I just starting my career, I could definitely use a “Little Hulk” in my tool set!
Would love to try this makita gun out! Have a couple 12-8 year old ones still plugging along. But this gun would help tremendously while doing cabinet work and adjustments. Hope to win this as I’m tight on funds starting my own general contracting business. Always love hearing what makita tool you have a review on as well. Keep it up mr. toolpig! ????

I work for a HVAC company where most of the guys use Milwaukee but I’ve always been more interested in Makita as I start to branch out away from my boss to start running my own jobs Makita is the brand I intend to start using
Thanks Toolpig for the great write up! I have always been a makita man and I am very excited about this driver. I currently use the sub-compact xdt15, and boy that thing packs a punch. I would love to incorporate the xdt14 into my makita family and check out its short and stubby body. I bet it’s great in tight spaces. I would use the xdt14 every day. Great review, love makita. I would love this as my makita impact is 12 years old and getting tired. It doesn’t like to drive self tappers into steel anymore. So this would be a welcome site. Thanks

Always use makita and have had very little trouble, my own impact driver is about 6/7 years old and is struggling with the 32mm wood beaver bits now,looks like a good upgrade option for our property renovations!!!
I have an older entry level makita impact driver that could probably stand to be replaced and man would this be a step up. I love how smooth makita products seem to work. I work as a scenic carpenter and that usually means screwing in 3” screws in strange places at times. So I think this would be a nice upgrade.
Instagram: DesignedInTheDen
I own one and use it often for carpentry and woodworking mainly with plywood. It’s very reliable, fast, well built. I’ve dropped my impact driver from about 1 ft, as I was able to slow down the fall with my foot and nothing happened to it. I would love to give this to my dad as a Father’s Day gift.
Desperately need new impact driver. Love makita. Current one is almost 14 years old and doesn’t have the juice it used to. Please enter me in drawing. Thank you.
I work in a cabinet shop and occasionally do installs. I’ve always been a big Makita fan. We do everything with the impacts in the shop, from drilling holes to driving screws. It would be great to have my own setup.
My impact is beat and def looking to replace it. The assit mode sounds like a great feature. Would def come in handy doing pounch lists
Makita interests me but I don’t have anything in their current line other than a vacuum. I would like to try an impact for sure though. I’m not in the construction industry but I am all in on DIY.
Have been makita through and through have just recently had my 2 impact drivers die on me as a carpenter in Australia these things come in handy for second fix with doors & window installations.
I would use this to replace my old craftsman. I’d use in it all of my carpentry projects! It’s be awesome to have!
I actually have one of those. The modes that you are able to switch in between come in handy. As plumber I’m able to set it up so it won’t over tighten no hub couplings. When I need it to screw some wood I just switch the mode.
This would be a great addition to my shop for everyday use.
The adjustable speed and torque settings on the new tools are great. Using the variable speed trigger works but one slip and your spinning out. Love all my Makita tools. My current kit was their first attempt with the self tapper mode. Didn’t seem to work that great on smaller gauge metal. But the drill itself has worked great. Not much rubber left on it and sometimes the light doesn’t like going off.
I’ve had my old makita impact for at least 13 years… I’ve only had to change the brushes recently… I’ve been looking at this model to replace it… seems solid, with way more power(at least compared to my old one???) … and the price isn’t that bad for a great tool… I will have to do some real time testing on this. ?
Entering the giveaway !!!! Hoping to win this set, fingers crossed. Instagram: _daitony_
Very well said, I don’t own the xdt14, but doing jobs with co workers ive used it just to get a feel for something different than my Milwaukee, if any brand could make me switch, it’d be makita. Ive owned makita in the past and I have always loved them right up there with Milwaukee. The quick shift and T mode are awesome features, I wish it had the same feature as the 16 which a lot of people don’t know about, it actually senses when you’re done removing the nut and automatically stops the drill so the nut doesn’t go flying off and somewhere on the floor. That is a great feature when constantly trying to do things with one hand. The case was even”roomy” where you can store your impact with the battery on it still, I like that as well.
Strong and long lasting out of all the other impacts I’ve tried, we’ve replaced all our impacts at work with Makita
Thanks for providing very informative reviews – recently there have been couple of occasions where i wish i had a compact impact rather than the one which i currently own. Seems like this one would be one which I should think about.

Great write up. I can’t tell you how disappointed I was with (at that time) Makita’s flagship XDT09. I thought it was a ridiculous amount to spend on a bare impact, but I did anyway. As you know, I’m a Makita fan, but the XDT09 fell way short of expectations. But from what I read here, the XDT14 seems to have addressed all the issues. Such as the double bearings to eliminate any wobble. And also the increase in torque. I was a bit jaded buying their past flagship impact, but winning this one may remove any doubt who makes the best impacts!
@makitacharles
Would be awesome to try this out. After 2 triggers on my fuel impact I’m starting to look at other options
@metalwoodandmore
You are not alone. Milwaukee switches and controllers seem to go out quite often from what many are telling me from their experience. I gave up completely on red in 2008 when all the v28 and v18 was having so much trouble. I gave Milwaukee a really fair shot the last few years and I will say they have improved over the 2005 quality. They still are way behind Makita In overall quality. They are an iconic American brand owned by a Chinese company with a focus on churning out every shape of red plastic imaginable. They let the customers figure out all the problems and they make the needed changes in Gen 2 and gen3. They have the most incredible marketing of any tool company. I sincerely wish the tool quality was as strong as the hype.
Usually I prefer Bosch, but this XDT14 seems to be pretty awesome aswell. Would love to own one, but it’s a bit to pricy for me at the moment.
I’m studying Engineering at the moment, but in my free time I love working with wood, steel and concrete to build up some nice furniture or some machines.

I started switching over to Makita for my personal tools about a year ago, and I’ve been using the xd13. Even with a single speed, the trigger is smooth enough that it’s easy to feather. It definitely made me want to try their more premium models, and this review cemented that. – @traufer
Just started switching over to Makita from Milwaukee after my drill bit the dust and I started having problems with batteries. I’d love to give their impact a try and see how it compares to my 18v Surge.
IG @michaeldaly10
We switched to makita a few years back. We have impacts that survived crews for the past 7 years and are still going. The only batteries we have thrown out were broken. Your articles are excellent. IG @bigdogconstuction.GM
Excellent write up as always! I took your recommendation to buy a ‘baby hulk’ years ago and it became my favorite tool! Am looking for a newer replacement now, maybe the 14 will be it.
Mikita makes great tools. A lot of my colleagues use them and I’ve wanted to start building my own stable of Makita for a while. Need an upgrade from my 12v Milwaukee set. Thanks for all the good work @toolpig.
Ig: @poshjopky
Love Makita. Have been using them for almost 10 years now. Still using my drill/driver and impact set. The drill finally gave out last Friday, going to replace the motor and brushes but another set would aid a lot while doing cabinet installs. Anywho keep up the great work and reviews.

Makita builds quality tools that last and many trades people rely on to earn a living. Unfortunately I own just one Makita made power tool, a corded router. Fortunately I get to use Makita power tools at work, mostly cordless, and the XDT14 imapct driver is just one more example of a solid product by a reputable company. In my opinion Makita is leading the way in providing a positive experience for professionals who use their tools all day long. This impact driver is no exception, and although it’s not the top of the line, the smoothness and effortless manner in which it drives screws and fasteners makes it a really sensible and logical option for someone who needs something dependable, powerful and comfortable but won’t break the bank.
Above average DIY Homeowner here. Most of the stuff I have is hand-me-down or secondhand stuff that works fine, but I’m looking to get some stuff for myself. I already have some Makita, namely their X2 Miter Saw and Track Saw. An impact like this one means I can finally retire the old Ryobi that’s been my go to for most projects around the house.

First and Foremost, would like to thank you for all the demos/treads you have on Instagram aswell as your website. I’m a fan of the entire Makita line up. From their 36v, to the huge expanding 18v. The article on the xdt14 is one hell of a tool. 1,500 inch lbs of torque really does make a difference vs some of their other brushless/non-brushless impact drivers. As i was saying on Instagram, I just picked up a XDT16Z from ASI Supply out of Lakewood NJ. I do a lot of jobs with various screw sizes. From 3/4” self tappers- 10” 3/8 diameter ledger locks. Last year I burnt out my XDT13 working on a metal truss job at the SeaGirt STATE POLICE training facility. The 5.0 battery’s really give the tools the power they are craving. I also use the sub compact black impact driver because it has the nice feature with installing screws/bolts. I’m very eager and be beyond thankful for the opportunity if I was the lucky guy to win. Thank you again for all the great information you send to the guys working hard for a living!

I’m a finish carpenter by trade. Work many big projects/production but mostly Ceiling details.Makita something I’ve wanted to try for a very long time.
@AforAndrew
As always great review. Definitely a powerful drill and would come in handy on the jobsite. Since we work on old houses we can go from driving screws to lag bolts in a matter of seconds. It would be a great addition to our arsenal.
@spectrummoderndesign
I personally have too much invested in my Milwaukee collection, but I do wish the 12 volt line of drills and impacts did not use the stick batteries which makes the overall grip wider than this Makita. A light drill would be great when I’m building in the shop and don’t need so much power. @Jayrivers159
The article is a pretty strong and convincing review. I like Makita tools as well but don’t currently have a impact driver in my arsenal. Would live to use it on Disaster Relief projects.

Been looking at getting this one… gotta replace the old impact before it dies….

I have the subcompact impact, and it’s great for 90% of what I do but the extra power from the XDT14 will definitely come in handy. Might even totally switch to it. @cartooncounty Instagram
Big fan of Makita. Thank you for your informative review
I’ve always been a fan of Makita because my Dad used them everyday for his construction business and they have not failed us yet. Thank you for your informative review. @sgttoves
Had the sub compact impact, loved it. It took a 10 foot fall onto grass and completely stopped working. I’m a makita fan through and through and would love another impact. If this ones as good as you say I think Winning it would be top notch. Thanks tool pig! Keep up the IG posts, I love them. @martinybrooks
I’m a new homeowner and could put one of these awesome drivers to good use! The list of projects never gets shorter, building a shed, fence maintenance, platform flooring in the attic, and a fireplace tear down and wall rebuild all in one project. It’s going to be a heck of a summer with that list and a newborn at home for the first time! Insta: @gsteele716
Sounds like a great tool, thanjs for the review. @dooey_by_self
I have one of the sub compact black makita drill and I use it everyday but really need more power from this green one id love to win it! @ssimpson247 on Instagram
Would love to try this out and win some new tools. I have a 12v Makita I bought many years ago and the little tool has a ton of power and was very happy with the amount of torque it had. It has to be at least 6 plus years old now and still works. My Home Depot doesn’t display these just the other big brands so I usually over look it because like to see what I’m purchasing. Like the video you guys made.
Wow, nice review! Makita definitely did good on this impact. Great features and an awesome kit! Would love to compare it the my bosch freak. Thanks for this review and opportunity to win it. @joe.d.i.r.t
Been a DeWalt guy my whole life but it’s hard to ignore some of the progressions being made by other brands, especially Makita. My dad has an old makita still growing up that seemed to never want to quit and it looks like they are still making quality products. I’d love to get my hands on one of these to see what else is out there besides DeWalt!
I have wanted an impact driver for a while, I have never used one, but see all the post online about them makes me want to give it a shot! I have makita everything else, from router to circular saw, another teal blue box would be right at home in my shop!

I’m a carpenter by trade. But I also work building Tough Mudder obstacle courses. My impact drivers are my daily use tools. I always enjoy watching your reviews because it helps me know what tools handle varying scenarios best. And with the different fields of work that I do I need tools that last indoors and outdoors. And can handle daily use and not die out quickly.
Carpenter apprentice in Nova Scotia, Canada and have always run Ridgid gear but I have always had a keen interest in Makita because of their great build quality but went with Ridgid because of the LSA. This impact looks beast and super light weight!
I would love to win something like this! I’m a bricklayer and we use impact drivers when we screw our brick anchors to a steel stud building. Love it @giddygads94 = insta
I haven’t used this exact model, but I’ve used previous ones. And being a cabinetmaker, they are one of the lightest, smallest and most comfortable impact drivers to use.

I’m a carpenter in Northern California and I love makita tools. I was disappointed by a
Post you wrote a few weeks back expressing your frustration with the quality of their products. I hope it doesn’t continue!!! I’d love to own this impact driver kit. I love mine but I’ve had it about 6 years and nothing would get me more stoked to wake up and get my day going more than knowing I had a fresh makita impact waiting for me!! Thanks and let me know!! I love your page btw you have the best tools on the regularly?
thanks for the review! I’ve been switching a select few tools from my Milwaukee tools to a couple makita this year. The X2 tools and the subcompacts have impressed me. Makita is making a good impression on me this year! This driver may be next!
I’m a carpenter by trade, mostly hanging doors and windows.

Nice review Toolpig. Making a living with your tools definitely gives you a different perspective on what you need for performance, options, and warranty. As builders and remodelers we need tools to last, but more important that they perform. It’s great to see products that are merging power and finesse.
@blatchley_building
Have been looking for a new impact to replace my 6 year old Milwaukee. The xdt16 has to many bells and whistles for what i need and you may have just sold me on this!
I’ve put my hands on one at one of my home depots. It feels just as solid as ever. Leave it to makita to not only make yet another killer impact but also set the bar for everyone else out there.
The different settings look great for more delicate trim and finish jobs. Great write up!
I’m a hobby carpenter, and for me the Number one has always been Bosch, but as I’m lately reading your reviews, I would be very interested in trying out an makita, especially such a nice impact driver as the XDT14. I’m even willing to switch Plattforms from Bosch to Makita, if it’s as good as you said.
IG @machinerymaker
Great review and awesome looking impact. I have always had Dewalt but heard nothing but great things about those Makita impacts forever now. I’m in the flooring game , so an impact like this would always come in handy for subfloor prep.
@dsfloorinstallations
I’ve tried ridgid, Milwaukee, and dewalt. Reading the review maybe it’s time I tried out Makita! Always in the market for a powerful impact. I’m a carpenter and always like to find better tools.

Great stuff! I’m a huge makita fan. Been using makita impact drills for almost ten years in sheet metal. I just recently switched trades into refrigeration and seems everyone in refrigeration uses Milwaukee power tools. I still have an old makita impact at home though. Would love a new one!
I Started Buying Makita Tools Back When Helping A Buddie At His Fathers Church. He Had A Few Tools Of All Brands But By Far His Favorite Was Makita, So I Began Using Them Not Long After Too. Since Then All My Makita Tools Have Seen There Fair Share Of Driving Srews And Fasting Bolts. I’m Loving The Look Of The New XDT14, Also Loving The Site. Well There’s My Two Cents Have A Blessed Day Y’all. Ig: gxfabian
I think what appeals to me most would be the compact size and weight. I primarily use Milwaukee and been happy with them but love the idea of an even more compact powerful tool. @pioneercontractingcc
Currently using the Makita the lxdt04 super nice impactor but looking to upgrade into the brushless world … Recently purchased the DHS680 circular saw (first and only brushless tool) love everything about Makita boss uses Milwaukee (which I use at work) nothing wrong with them but something about Makita got to love them
The more I see the advances between all brands, the more I’m inclined to broaden my toolbox. I have been in the diesel industry for 15 years and was snap on and dewalt for years. When milwaukee showed up and snap on and dewalt 12v-14.4 line was underperforming, I made the switch to milwaukee and never looked back. At home, my interest and hobby was projects and woodworking which made me look at all brands to find what fits my budget and needs. Since following toolpig and others , I find myself being more and more apt to try Makita. Thank you toolpig and home depot for doing this.
Im an electrician apprentice doing commercial installations. Right now im using the m12 impact. I like it for the size but i always wish it had more power i def might have to make the switch to makita to get my hands on this little beast. I wonder how it will hold up to spade bites and unibits
Hey it’s me, Kody! Checking out that XDT 14 and it really performs! I thought for sure that the Metabo Triple Hammer would outperform it. Working with 1/8 inch thick powder coated aluminum all day on the Struxure Pergolas will really test your drills! Really glad you helped me make my decision!
Very powerful tool. Would definitely work for putting lag bolts into deck joist and that’s what I would be useing it for
I’m a journeyman patternmaker by day and a furniture maker by night. I use all brands and types of tools in both jobs. I’ve definitely noticed good and bad things with all brands. I honestly have never had complaints with Makita tools and I’m sure this compact impact would be no different.
Building maintenance hvac technician for a manufacturing plant in Skokie, Illinois. I would definitely be able to use the Makita impact from anchoring piping to the walls or guard rails around equipment.
Thanks
My very first cordless drill was a 9.6V Makita…I seriously loved that thing. I currently have mostly Milwaukee tools, but have been really impressed with the Makita tools I’ve been seeing and would like to eventually add them to my line up.
The impact you reviewed looks really tempting…
I really like the small size…not only would it fit well in the tight quarters and crawl spaces I tend to hang out in, but it would fit my hand better and help prevent the muscle fatigue that can happen when I use larger/more awkward tools for prolonged periods.
Because I have small hands, I often wish that I could find “child sized” tools that pack a grown up punch…it looks like that xdt14 would totally “fit the bill” (or hand lol)
Thanks for the review and comparisons (and also thanks for the chance at your contest!)

Seem like a nice impact, I’m doing renovations/flippers and only until recent I’ve been using the old XLT you did a review on, it’s been great but it’s getting weak as of late, we use a newer model I can’t think which one it is, but unfortunately they won’t accept the new small batteries
Would love to get my hands on this. The settings and smaller size would be great for cabinet install and interior trim. Been doing this with a old Makita, maybe 8 years old now.. probably about time to upgrade.

Would like to give this drill a try , I’ll consider buying one , seems good for small sports like when working with kitchen cabinets, I’m Francisco 23 years old working with my father and family own business. Watching all your videos and tool reviews has helped a lot , makes buying new tools a much easier decisions
I read your review on the XDT1418V Impact tool by Makita and I was impressed. When I was working in the metal stud framing and drywall business, we used a lot of Makita chop saws and screw guns. Makita really stepoed up their game now. I could have used this impact for using self tapping screws into 12 ga metal joists. Broke a lot of screws that would spin out. My guys also broke a lot of bit tips and nut driver bits. I would like to try it today because i want to see it drive those fasteners home Good review as alwsys Tool Pig.i want one now for sure.
